Planning a trip to chokoloskee from Tampa

My friend and I are planning our first trip to the everglades/10,000 islands area in March...the 12-18 to be exact. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on what to pack other than your standard tent, sleeping bags, etc. What are the mesquitos usually like during that time, and has anyone had experience using a Thermacell down there?! Other than that fishing tips, and spots are also definitely needed!
